Human CD22 cell surface antigen, a 130-140kD glycoprotein, is expressed within the cytoplasm at an early stage of B cell differentiation. However, it is expressed at the membrane only on mature B lymphocytes. CD22 expression is lost during terminal differentiation to plasma cell stages.
