Human homolog of murine double minute-2 (MDM2) and p53 function in mutual regulation: activation of p53 results in expression of MDM2 which consequently inhibits the ability of wild type p53 to stimulate expression of target genes. MDM2 is frequently overexpressed in the nuclei of soft tissue sarcomas, and to a much lesser extent in a wide variety of malignancies of bladder, breast, testes, cervix, glial cells.
